Peppermint is a common garden herb in the mint family, although it is not a species but a hybrid cross between watermint and spearmint .While powdered peppermint leaf can be used for many of the same purposes as the dried herb, it is often encapsulated as a dietary supplement.

Use in herbal bath blends. May also be infused in oil or tinctured for use in making soaps, shampoos and other cosmetic products. Use alone or in combination with other herbs in tea blends. May also be used in baked goods and in seasoning blends for roasted meats and vegetables. Peppermint is widely used in the food, fragrance and pharmaceutical 

peppermint oil (as well as peppermint leaf) has been used internally as an antispasmodic (upper gastrointestinal tract and bile ducts) and to treat irritable bowel syndrome, catarrh of the respiratory tract, and inflammation of the oral mucosa. Peppermint oil may also act as a carminative, cholagogue, antibacterial, and secretolytic, and it has a cooling action. Externally, peppermint oil has been used for muscle pain and nerve pain
